Why do whole numbers raised to an exponent get greater,while fractions raised to an exponent get smaller?

This is only true for positive exponents greater than 1. Anyways, an exponent means multiplying something by itself. When you have a fraction, you are finding a fraction of a fraction so .25^2 is a quarter of a quarter which is .0625. Where 2^2 is 2 doubled which is 4. It just be that way sometimes ‍♂️
