Best guess because you have no options:
The poor bridegroom does not say a word, instead the bride’s father stands up, gripping his sword and asks Lochinvar if he came there to keep the peace, with the intention of fighting or to dance with the bride. Lochinvar bodly replies that he has been in love with the Lord’s daughter for a long time but was denied the opportunity to marry her. He accepts that she is married and is only here to drink a cup of wine at the marriage feast. He claims that maidens who are far more fair and beautiful than Ellen would love to make him a husband instead.
He tricks the father into thinking he is no longer in love with the fair madien and that there are other girls besides her.
