The correct answer is D) in the coastal region of Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Tobacco was an important crop in the coastal regions of Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.

These three colonies grew Tobacco but in Virginia, Tobacco was the best cash crop. This tobacco tasted much better than tobacco from England. It was bitter. In 1612, John Rolfe got some tobacco seeds from Spain. He planted it in the bottomland of the James River, full of nutrients, produced a darker leaf of tobacco. That is when tobacco crops spread to Maryland and North Carolina.
