Before adding the fractions we require them to have a common denominator.

multiply the numerator/denominator of the first faction by 2 and the numerator/denominator of the second fraction by 7, that is

(5(7))/(2(7))

= -

(35)/(14)

Now add the numerators leaving the denominator

=
(-6+35)/(14) =
(29)/(14) = 2
(1)/(14)
