Answer:

To apply the given model, it's better if you transform each decimal number into a natural number first, it would be easier.

To do such transformation, you just have to move the decimal point one spot to the right. But, pay attention to move the same number of spots in both parts of the division, otherwise would be wrong. So, we are gonna move the decimal point one spot to the right in both part of the fractions , as follows


1.4 / 0.7=14 / 7

Now, just an easier expression to apply the model. The division is like dividing 14 things to 7 people, you can see that each person it's gonna have 2 items.

However, there's an easier way, each square represents a whole, an unit, and each of them have 10 rectangles, which on represents one decimal point 0.1.

So, 1.4 will be represented by 1 complete square and 4 rectangles extra, in total you have to shade 14 rectangles to represent 1.4 (that's what 14 expressed in the last procedure), then 0.7 represents less than a complete square, you just have to shade 7 rectangles of an square which represents 0.7.
