Answer:

Robin = 60 years

Earl = 30 years

Adam = 22 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the ages of Robin, Earl and Adam be represented by the first letter of their names i.e. R, E and A respectively.

Robin is twice as old as Earl. In equation form we can write this as:

R = 2E

in 6 years Robin will be 3 times as old as Adam. In equation form this will be:

R + 6 = 3A

Adam is 8 years younger than Earl. In equation form this will be:

A = E - 8

We have to find the value of R, E and A from these equations.

Using the value of R from 1st equation and value of A from 3rd equation, and using them in 2nd equation, we get:

2E + 6 = 3(E - 8)

2E + 6 = 3E - 24

6 + 24 = 3E - 2E

E = 30

Using this value in 1st equation we get:

R = 2E = 2 x 30 = 60

Using the value of E in 3rd equation, we get:

A = E - 8 = 30 - 8 = 22

So their ages are:

Robin = 60 years

Earl = 30 years

Adam = 22 years

Answer:

Adam is 4 years old

Robin is 24 years old

Earl is 12 years old

Step-by-step explanation:

Assume that Earl's current age is x years

We are given that:

1- Robin is twice as old as Earl. This means that:

Robin's current age is 2x years

2- Adam is 8 years younger than Earl. This means that:

Adam's current age is x-8 years

3- In 6 years, Robin will be three times as old as Adam

In six years:

Robin's age will be 2x + 6

Adam's age will be x-8+6 = x-2

Setting the equation from the third given:

2x+6 = 3(x-2)

2x + 6 = 3x - 6

6 + 6 = 3x - 2x

x = 12

This means that:

Earl's age = x = 12 years

Robin's age = 2x = 2*12 = 24 years

Adam's age = x-8 = 12-8 = 4 years

Hope this helps :)
