Complete your work in the space provided or upload a file that can display math symbols if your work requires it. Include the entire process for establishing a set of equations, the solution, and an explanation of what the solution means in terms of the variables. Follow the process for establishing a set of equations: Choose a variable to represent one of the unknowns. Express the remaining unknowns in terms of the variable you chose in step 1. Look for a relationship between the unknowns given in the problem. Write an equation. (Look for the other relationship given in the problem.) Two sides of a triangle are equal in length and double the length of the shortest side. The perimeter of the triangle is 35 inches.

Answer: 4x + x = 35 or 5x = 35

Explanation:

Let the short side of triangle is x unit,

Thus, According to the question,

The other longer sides are 2x and 2x,

Thus, the perimeter of the isosceles triangle = 2(2x) + x = 4x + x

But, the perimeter of the triangle = 35 inches,

⇒ 4x + x = 35

5x = 35

⇒ x = 7

Therefore, the measurement longer sides of the triangle = 2x = 2×7 = 14 inches

And the measurement of the shorter side = x = 7 inches
