DUI - means driving under influence meaning you are driving with any alcohol in your system like a cup you can still be sober or slightly típsy when driving under influence

DWI - means driving while intoxicated meaning that person is drunk

DUI: is driving under the influence

DWI: is driving while intoxicated

The difference is that in America, there are different charges, severe or less severe, if you get pulled over. Depending on the state you live in, DUI is usually a lesser charge than DWI. The difference is found by the alcohol blood level from 0.8 to .10.
