Figurative language is a writing device used both in prose and poetic writing that is meant to help a reader gain insight into deeper meanings that what the mere words may express. Usually, figurative language is used to communicate a deeper meaning by using a combination of words that taken together express much more than each word separately. There are several categories that make up the group of figurative speech, but some of the most used are personification, idioms, metaphors, similes, among others. There are also techniques used, especially in poetry, where the play with consonants, vowels and order of words, help the author underline the true meaning in his work. One such technique is called alliterarion. Alliteration is the repetition of the same consonant sound in words that are close together. In this line of poetry, out of the seven words, three initiate their sound with the same consonant, N, making it repetitive, thus: necklace, neck and nice. This is why the correct answer is B.

Particularly, Alliteration ( derived from Latin’s “Latira”which means “letters of alphabet”) is a stylistic device in which a number of words, having the same first consonant sound, occur close together in a series.
