According to the drive theory of motivation, deviations from homeostasis create physiological needs.
What is the drive theory of motivation?
The drive theory of motivation is a theory developed in 1943 by a man named Clark Hull. Another name given to this is the “drive reduction theory.” This theory simply refers to the drive of fulfilling needs. One example of this theory would be as follows:
Let’s take for example that I’m hungry. My motivation would be that I’m thinking of something to eat, which we can say here is a hamburger. What I do because of this is I would either make or go out and buy a hamburger. The result of me doing this is that I am no longer hungry. The theory sounds complicated, but really, it’s easy once you get the hang of it! If you need help, let me know and I will gladly assist you.
