The pump price was g dollars per gallon of gasoline yesterday. The price increases by 10 cents per gallon today. If a driver pumps 12.4 gallons of gasoline today, how much does he have to pay?

Explanation:

10 cents mean $0.10

Previous day price was "g" dollars and today increased "0.10" dollars

So today's price is "g+0.10" per gallon

So for 12.4 gallons, he has to pay 12.4 multiplied by "g+0.10"

12.4(g+0.10)\\=12.4g+(0.10)(12.4)\\=12.4g+1.24 dollars
