In fact DNA sequence from virtually any living organisms could be inserted into a bacterium and the bacterium would be able to use the sequence to make the same proteins that the original organism did. This example proves that the genetic code is the same across species, meaning that they must inherited it from a common ancestor.

The genetic code (set of rules for the translation of genetic material into product-protein) is universal, it means that the same codon (triplet of nucleotides) code for same amino acid in all organisms. Because of this property, it is possible for bacteria to translate the gene for insulin and produce it.
