Answer:

Cost of one rose bush is $8 and cost of one shrub is $4 .

Explanation:

Let us assume that the cost of one rose bush be x .

Let us assume that the cost of one shrub be y .

As given

Mofor and Stephanie each improved their yards by planting rose bushes and shrubs.

They bought their supplies from the same store.

Mofor spent $96 on 8 rose bushes and 8 shrubs.

Equations becomes

8x + 8y = 96

As given

Stephanie spent $88 on 8 rose bushes and 6 shrubs.

Equations becomes

8x + 6y = 88

Thus the two equation becomes

8x + 8y = 96

8x + 6y = 88

Subtracted 8x + 6y = 88 from 8x + 8y = 96 .

8x - 8x + 8y - 6y = 96 -88

2y = 8

y = (8)/(2)

y = $4

Put the value of y = 4 in the equation 8x + 6y = 88 .

8x + 6 × 4 = 88

8x + 24 = 88

8x = 88 - 24

8x = 64

x = (64)/(8)

x = $8

Therefore the cost of one rose bush is $8 and cost of one shrub is $4 .
