In the essay "Shooting an Elephant", the author, George Orwell, explores the idea of British imperialism. Britain had Burma under its power until their people managed to achieve independence in 1948. In the essay, Burmese people have a negative attitude towards the English people since the British treat them in a very bad way. Moreover, although the Burmese people do not have enough guts to start a riot, sometimes they show their discontent towards British officers by insulting them when it is not dangerous to do so.
