Answer:

Number of squares needed are 56 squares.

Explanation:

Given that Mrs. Renoir has completed the interior portion of a quilt top measuring 4 feet by 6 feet. We have to find number of squares needed to out lining the above portion with squares measuring 4 inches on each side.

The dimension of interior portion 4 fret by 6 feet i.e 48 inches by 72 inches.

Area=Length* breadth=48* 72=3456inches^2

Outlining by the squares of side 4 inches on each side.

Hence, dimension of quilt top after outlining by squares are

Length=48-4-4=40 inches

Breadth=72-4-4=64 inches.

Area=Length* breadth=40* 64=2560inches^2

Now, total area to outline by squares of side 4 inches of quilt top is
3456-2560=896inches^2

\text{Area of square of side 4 inches=}4* 4=16inches^2

\text{Number of squares needed=}(896)/(16)=56 squares.
