There a total of 82 students in the robotics club and the science club. The science club has 6 fewer students than the robotic club. How many students are in science club?

Let, the number of students in the robotics club = x and the number of students in the science club = y.

Since, there are total 82 students in both the clubs.

So, we have,


x+y=82.

Moreover, the number of students in the science club are 6 less than those in the robotics club.

So, we get,


y=x-6

Thus, solving the system of equations, we get,


x+y=82 implies
x+(x-6)=82 implies
2x-6=82 i.e. 2x= 88 i.e. x= 44

So,
y=x-6 implies y= 44-6 i.e. y= 38
