A taxi company charges $2.25 for the first mile and then $0.20 per mile for each additional mile, or F = $2.25 + $0.20(m - 1) where F is the fare and m is the number of miles. If Juan's taxi fare was $6.05, how many miles did he travel in the taxi?

If juan's taxi fare was 7.65, how many miles did he travel in taxi

Answer:

As per the statement:

A taxi company charges $2.25 for the first mile and then $0.20 per mile for each additional mile.

then;

F = 2.25+0.20(m-1) .....[1]

where m is the numb er of miles and F is the fare.

If Juan's taxi fare was $6.05

⇒F = 6.05

Substitute in [1] to solve for m;

6.05 = 2.25+0.20(m-1)

Subtract 2.25 from both sides we get;

3.80 = 0.20(m-1)

Divide both sides by 0.20 we get;

19 = m-1

Add 1 to both sides we get;

20 = m

or

m = 20 miles

hence: 20 many miles did he travel in the taxi.

Now, If Juan's taxi fare was $7.65

then;

7.65= 2.25+0.20(m-1)

Subtract 2.25 from both sides we get;

5.40= 0.20(m-1)

Divide both sides by 0.20 we get;

27= m-1

Add 1 to both sides we get;

28= m

therefore, 28 many miles did he travel in the taxi.
