Develop an argument for why Buddhism and or Confucianism is sometimes referred to a philosophy rather than a religion

Buddhism can sometimes be considered a way of life as opposed to a religion because it has no clear belief of the afterlife, teachings should be investigated individually, and personal practice and adherence to moral beliefs are placed before any dogma.
