Answer:

Let x represents the hours and y represents the total fees(in dollars)

As per the statement:

(a)

For a house call, a veterinarian charges $70, plus $40 an hour

"$40 an hour" means 40x

then;

the equation we get;


y = 40x + 70 .....[1]

(b).

Find the x-intercept.

x-intercept states that the graph cross the x-axis.

Substitute y = 0 in the equation and solve for x;

we get;


x = -(7)/(4)

y-intercept states that the graph crosses the y-axis i.e

Substitute x= 0 in the equation and solve for y;


y =70

Therefore, x-intercept and y-intercept of equation [1] are:


-(7)/(4) and 70
