Is the book the Outsiders a realistic story? Plz explain. ASAP!

In my opinion it is, though I don’t know exactly when this happened in Ohio. I would say it’s realistic because it excludes fantasy, first of all, its characters are all realistic and so are its settings, and the plot describes Ponyboy’s world as though it really happened, that this was the cold hard truth of the world, and that everyone is an outsider from each lifestyle. At least, that’s what I got from reading it.
