The coldest temperature ever recorded in Mathville was -25°F. This happened on January 30th, 1963. The normal low for that day is 26°F.

How much was the difference between the normal low temperature and the record low temperature?

The difference between -25 and +26 is 51 degrees F. Think of it on a number line, where one value is negative and the other is positive.
