Rosa is building a toolshed. She wants to check to see if it is square. She measured down one side 4 feet and down the adjacent side 3 feet. How many feet are from the end of the 4-foot section to the end of the 3-foot section, if the building is square?

There will be formed a right angle triangle.

One side of the triangle will be 4 and another side of the triangle will be 3.

From the end of the 4-foot section to the end of the 3-foot section will be x that could be found using Pythagorean theorem.

So,


x^2 = 3^2 + 4^2


x^2= 9+16


x^2=25

Taking square root on both sides


x=5

So, from the end of the 4-foot section to the end of the 3-foot section, the distance is 5 feet. : Answer 5
