What should I write?
Being about to recognize, understand, and respect another person's point of view is a very important part of the thinking process. Think about enslaved African Americans during the Antebellum Period. This was a glorious time for wealthy white Southerners, but it was the most brutal and difficult time in our nation's history for slaves.
It is important to remember that while African Americans had been enslaved, they were not just slaves. They were husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and friends. Yet, they were stripped of nearly every human right and labeled as "slaves".
Have you ever wondered what is was like to be a slave? Put yourself in the shoes of a house or field slave during the Antebellum Period and write a journal entry for every day of a week, outlining what a week in the life of a slave might have been like.
