The dance committee of Pine Bluff Middle School earns $75 from a bake sale and will earn $4 for each ticket they sell to the Spring Fling dance. The dance will cost $400. Write an inequality to determine the number, t, of tickets the committee could sell to have money left over after they pay for this year's dance

Let the number of tickets be t

Earnings from each ticket after selling = $4

Amount earned by selling all the tickets = 4 × t

Earnings from a bake sale = $75

⇒ Total earnings of the dance committee = 75 + 4·t

Amount paid for the dance = $400

So, inequality such that after paying for the dance money is left over is such that there total earnings must be greater than the dance pay.

⇒ 75 + 4·t > 400

⇒ 4·t > 400 - 75

⇒ 4·t > 325

⇒ t > 81.25 ≈ 82

Hence, Number of tickets must be greater than 82 to let the money to left over after the dance pay.
