Answer: Total budget for Indiana's education budget is
\$1.1817* 10^(10)

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Number of k-12 students in Indiana = 1.01 million

Amount Indiana spends per pupil = $11700

So, Total budget for k-12 pupils by Indiana's education is given by

1.01* 11700\\\\=11817\ million\\\\=11817* 10^6\ (1\ million=1000000=10^6)\\\\=\$1.1817* 10^(10)

Since we know that significant notation means decimal should be placed just after the unit digit and to make it like this we have to divide it by
10^4 as there is five digit in 11817.

And
10^4 is get added to
10^6 to make
10^(10)

Hence, Total budget for Indiana's education budget is
\$1.1817* 10^(10)
