"After Twenty Years", is a short story written by William Sydney Porter, better known for his pen name, O. Henry. This short story deals with the friendship between two men, Jimmy Wells, a policeman in Chicago and Bob, also known as Silky Bob, a reknown criminal that is being looked for in that city. They have an appointment that after twenty years, regardless of their situations, these two friends would meet each other and while Bob awaits for his friend at a darkened doorway, he has an enounter first with a policeman and then with a mysterious man, whom he thinks might be his friend, but later finds out its a civil-clothes wearing officer of the law.

In the first question, this is one of the main scenes in the story, Jimmy, who is making rounds, finds the mysterious darkened character, whom he later recognizes as his friend but does not dare to approach because he knows he is wanted by the police. The only mood not supported in that scene is one of humor. Neither character finds anything funny, much less Jimmy, who knows he has to face his friend and arrest him but doesn´t dare.

2. The correct answer would be B. Why? Because Bob does not recognize his friend Jimmy in the first officer that appears. He is convinced that his friend must be in plain civilian clothes and never once suspects, except at the end when he finally sees the profile of the person, that his friend was in fact, not the one in civilian clothes.

3. This particular dialogue shows that the character dislikes herself intensely and does not see anything good in herself. She´d rather stay behind the scenes and not be seen for fear that she´ll be rejected and shunned. The answer then would be A. It also moves the plot forward because it establishes the actions that the character will take based on her self-relfection.
