Theories of the atom (from the earliest model of the atom to the most recent one):

1. Dalton's model of the atom - Solid sphere atom

Dalton proposed that matter is composed of small, indivisible objects called atoms.

2. Thompson’s model of atom - Plum pudding model

He discovered electrons. In this model, the atom is made up of electrons that float in a “cloud” of positive charge.

3. Rutherford's model of the atom - Nuclear model

In this model, atom is a tiny, dense, positively charged core - nucleus surrounded by lighter, negatively charged electrons.

4. Bohr's model of the atom – Planetary model

Bohr explained that the electrons are around the nucleus in certain special orbits at different energy levels.

5. Schrodinger model of atom - Quantum model

This theory proposes that electrons move in waves and its location is unknown (there are only “clouds of probability”).
