so we know that Jane is 5 times old as her sister. And lets make J satnd for Jane.....

So, J = 5s we need the sisters age 5 times. (S = sister)

Next, J + 3 = 2s This is because in 3 yrs jane will be 2 times the age of her sister.

Now we can simplify by taking the second equation and subtracting, so J will still be J. and we have the 3 yrs and 5s - 2s = 3s, now we are left with 3=3s.

So if 3s = 3 we divide....... S 3/3 3 divided by 3 = 1. S will stay S. Now we have concluded S (sister) is 1. So that means her sister is 1 and 5 times her sisters age is 5. Jane is 5 and her sister is 1.

Hope this helps!

Answer:

jane is 5 and her sister is 1

Explanation:

we don't know jane's sister age, so we will use x

she is 5 times as old as her, so jane is 5x

in 3 years, jane will be 2 times as old as her

so you add 3 to both their ages

then you set an equation. to make their ages equal, you multiple her sister's age by 2

you then get

5x+3=2(x+3)

5x+3=2x+6

x=1

Her sister is 1 and Jane is 5
