Answer:

Let M represents the cost of 1 Math book and S represents the cost of 1 science book.

As per the statement:

The cost of 4 math books plus 1 science book is 4 more than the cost of 2 math books plus 3 science books.

"Cost of 4 Math books plus 1 science book" translated to 4M+S

"4 more than the cost of 2 math plus 3 science books " translated to 2M+3S+4

then;

4M+S = 2M+3S+4

Subtract 2M from both sides we get;

2M + S = 3S+4

Subtract S from both sides we get;

2M = 2S + 4

It is also given the cost of science book is $22.95

2M = 2(22.95)+4 = 45.9+4=49.9

⇒2M = 49.9

Divide both sides by 2 we get;

M = \$ 24.95

therefore, the cost of the math book is $24.95
