Did the promise that tax cuts would result in a growing economy that would pay for any budget shortfalls come true during the Reagan years?

  • Social welfare spending that benefitted the urban poor was cut during the 1980s.Job training,nutrition,and social services were all eliminated or reduced in favour of greater military spending and tax cuts.

This greatly increased the gap between the rich and the poor and made living conditions in the inner city worse.

No,Reagan's electoral campaign was carried out with an economic program that promised to reduce taxes. This type of economic plan has led to a huge deficit and a deep recession. Unemployment had reached its highest point since the Great Depression: 11.6 million Americans were out of work
