The student council at Kensington High School is making T-shirts to sell for a fundraiser, at a price of $12 apiece. The costs, meanwhile, are $6 per shirt, plus a setup fee of $150. Selling a certain number of shirts will allow the student council to cover their costs. How many shirts must be sold?

Answer:

it will take 25 shirts until the council can cover their cost.

Explanation:

This is the equation we will use:

0 = 6x - 150

0 means that they did not earn anything but at the same time they covered their cost. $6 is the money they earn because since each shirt cost $6 to produce and they sell it for $12, they only earn $6. -150 is the setup fee it's negative because they still need to cover money.

0 - 6x = -150

-6x = -150

x = 25
