Explanation:

The first rectangle is 8 by 10. Cutting it in half once will give a rectangle 8 by 5 because 10/2 = 5. The area will be 8*5 = 40. The next will be 8 by 2.5. The area will be 8*2.5=20 and so on. Fill out the table by multiplying the side lengths to find the area.

Number of Cuts Process Area

0 8*10 80

1 8*5 40

2 8*2.5 20

3 8*1.25 10

4 8*0.75 5

5 8* 0.375 2.5

......

n 8*10(1/2)^n


To graph, graph as (0,80) where 0 is the number of cuts and 80 is the area. Then graph (1,40) and (2,20) etc. It will create a curve like the graph attached.
