During the English Civil War , Charles I was supported by a. Northern and western.

During this conflict, Charles I side of belligerantes was formed by the Cavaliers, who were members of the Parliament that supported him; and the Covenanters, a Scottish Presbyterian movement.

On the other side, the Parliamentary forces had the support of the south-east of England, the city of London, merchants and the navy. Eventually, due to their supperior forces, Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army and the decline of Charles I forces, he would be defeated, trialed for treason and executed in 1649
