what is the minimum y value of the function f(x) = 2x^2-3x+5?

ymin = 3.875

Explanation:

We can calculate the ymin of the given parabola with next formula

ymin = (4ac - b²)/ 4a

We have standard formula for quadratic equation (function)

f(x) = ax² + bx + c

The given formula is f(x) = 2x² -3x + 5

In this case a=2 , b= -3 and c=5

ymin = ( 4 · 2 · 5 - (-3)²) / 4 · 2 = (40 - 9) / 8 = 31 / 8 = 3.875
