0 has no value, so we can just take it out of the equation.

6y = 12

Now, we have to get the variable by itself, so we have to get rid of that coefficient by dividing both sides by 6.

6y ÷ 6 = y
12 ÷ 6 = 2

y = 2

Let's check our work.

0+ 6×2 = 12
12 = 12
