Answer:

width = 3 feet

Explanation:

The width of a rectangle is 3 feet less than its length.

Let L be the length of the rectangle

Width is 3 feet less than its length

so width is length - 3

Width = L - 3

given perimeter = 18 feet

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(length ) + 2(width)

18 = 2L + 2(L-3)

18 = 2 L + 2L - 6

Add 6 on both sides

24= 4L

divide by 4 on both sides

L = 6

Length = 6 feet

Width = L - 3= 6 -3 = 3 feet
