Apostrophes can be used to indicate possession or relationship between members in a family (possessive anglosaxon); apart from their common use of contractions.
When used for indicating possession, the noun which possesses something has the apostrophe. For example:
This is Jerry's smartphone.
Argentina's first school was built hundreds of years ago.
Examples of the apostrophe for indicating how members are related:
Lauren is Jack's daughter.
My boyfriend is my best friend's brother.
