y=2x +4

y=x+6

write it in standard form to add (its easier this way)

----------------

-2x+y=4

-x+y=6

multiply the second one by -1 (so we can cancel out the y's)

-2x+y=4

x-y=-6

add now

-x=-2

divide by -1

x=2

sub 2 for x in this equation: y=x+6

y=2+6

y=8

soooo

x=2 and y=8
