A bookmark is shaped like a rectangle with a semicircle attached at both ends. The rectangle is 14 cm long and 4 cm wide. The diameter of each circle is the width of the rectangle. What is the area of the bookmark? Use 3.14 for π.

Area of the bookmar = 68.56 sq.cm.

Explanation:

It is given that the diameter of each circle is the width of the rectangle.

Therefore, each radius =
(4)/(2) = 2 cm.

Area of the 2 semi circles = 2 × 0.5 × 3.14 ×
2^(2)

= 4 × 3.14

= 12.56 sq.cm.

Now, area of the rectangle = length × width

= 14 × 4

= 56 sq.cm

Area of the bookmark = Area of the rectangular part + 2 × (area of the semicircular part)

= 56 + 12.56

= 68.56 sq.cm.
