A garden table and a bench cost 735 combined. The garden table costs 35 more than the bench. What is the cost of the bench?

Hello!

Based on the info we have we can form 2 equations :

(Keep in mind x is the cost of the garden table and y is that of the bench)

  1. x + y = 735
  2. x = y + 35

Now substitute x in the first equation.

⇒ y + 35 + y = 735

⇒ 2y = 700

⇒ y = 350

∴ The cost of the bench is

(x) + (x + 35) = 735
