What happens to the numbers of chromosomes after meiosis?

The number of chromosomes is increased by doubling.
The number of chromosomes is reduced by one half.
Only maternal chromosomes are replicated.
The amount of chromosomes does not change.

Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me out!!
