D + A = 328 , M + D = 176

Since A = 5M then D + 5M = 328

We now have 2 equations in D and M which we can solve

D + 5M = 328 → (1)

D + M = 176 → (2)

Subtract (2) from (1) term by term

(D - D ) + (5M - M ) = (328 - 176 )

4M = 152 ( divide both sides by 4 )

M = 38

substitute M = 38 into D + M = 176

D + 38 = 176 ( subtract 38 from both sides )

D = 138

Hence Durai has 138 marbles
