Let the number of jugs be represented by x

Costs be C in dollars($)

The table fan be interpreted as this;

If 5mugs cost $15

1mug will cost $15/5 = $3

Similarly,

If 10mugs costs $30

1mug will cost $30/10 = $3

As you can see that for each number of mug and their price, their unit price is always equal.

Thus shows that there is a direct variation between the number of mugs and their price.

C = kx where k is the proportionality constant

k = C/x

When x = 5, C = $15

k = 15/5
