A school wants to put on a dance recital. Middle School dancers have short programs that run four minutes long. High School performers will dance longer with longer programs seven minutes in length. The entire program cannot have more than ten dances and the entire recital must be over in less than 90 minutes. What pair of inequalities BEST represents the number of short Middle School dances (M) and the number of longer High School dances (H) that can be performed given these limitations?

Answer: M + H ≤ 10 and 4 M + 7 H < 90

Also, the time take by High school dances = 7 minutes

While, the time taken by middle school dances = 4 minutes

Thus, the total time taken by high school dances = 7 H

And, the time taken by middle school dances = 4 M

According to the question,

The entire program cannot have more than ten dances

That is, M + H ≤ 10

And, the entire recital must be over in less than 90 minutes,

That is, 4 M + 7 H < 90
