Answer: Stan used
(1)/(24)\ gallon of gasoline.

Explanation:

Given: The amount of gasoline in the tank of Stan lawn mower=
(1)/(8)\ of\ gallon

Then he put the amount of gasoline in the tank=
(1)/(6)\ of\ gallon

The total amount of gasoline filled in the tank =
(1)/(8)+(1)/(6)\ gallons

⇒ The total amount of gasoline filled in the tank =
(3+4)/(24)=(7)/(24)\ gallons

The amount of gasoline left in the tank after mowing=
(1)/(4)\ of\ gallon

Now, the total gasoline used by Stan=
(7)/(24)-(1)/(4)=(7-6)/(24)=(1)/(24)\ gallon
