In my view, the best line to avoid repetition is C. The group of friends came to an agreement about the movie they would see together.

Indeed, it avoids most of the previous wording while at the same time preserving the meaning and scope of the sentence. It includes the notion that they came to this agreement together and that the agreement was about which film to watch.
