a jacket that originally costs 60.00 was on sale for 10% off. When it didn't sell after weeks, the sale price was discounted another 40% off the discounted price. What was the final price of the jacket? Is the total discount equal to 50%?

Answer:

original cost = 60.00

after 10% discount the price becomes :

60 * 10/100

6

price = 60 - 6 = 54.00

after 40% discount on discounted price:

54 * 40/100

21.6

new price = 54 - 21.6 = 32.4

final price of jacket = 32.4

since 50% of the original price will be 30.00

so, the total discount is not equal to 50% of the original cost

10% of 60 is 6.

60 - 6 = $54 at a discount of 10%.

This price is discounted by 40%.

40% of 54 is $21.60.

The final price is $21.60 It's not equal to a 50% discount because half of 60 is 30, making the final price $30.

Hope this helps!
