Carmen has $30 in store bucks and a 25% discount coupon for a local department store. What maximum dollar amount can Carmen purchase so that after her store bucks and discount are applied, her total is no more than $60 before sales tax? (Note: The 25% discount is applied BEFORE the $30 store bucks.)

Answer: 120

Explanation:

(.75x)-30 less than or equal to 60

+ 30 to both sides

.75x less than or equal to 90

divide .75 to both sides

x is less than or equal to 120

(60 + 30) * .25

90 * .25

90 + 22.5 = 112.50

112.50 is the maximum dollar amount Carmen can purchase.
