when directing a theatrical event, they do not want to hear raspy, cut-out voices. they would like clear, and loud, but not so loud that it would completely be unnecessary. they also do not like to hear sarcasm in a serious cast.

Answer:

Unrelated offstage noise from actors.

Step-by-step explanation:

The audience sould not be able to hear the actors that are offstage moving about, warming up, changing costumes, etc. These offstage noises can be distracting and ruin the illusion of the play's world, breaking the fourth wall. Additionally, these noises might also distract the actors who are performing on stage.
