The equation can be rewritten as (1/2)at2 + vt - d = 0
This is a quadratic equation in the variable t, which can be solved by using the quadratic formula.
t = [-v ± √(v2 - 4(1/2)(a)(-d))]/(2(1/2)(a))
= [-v ± √(v2 + 2ad)]/a
